Who?
Joep van Rhijn (1984) is a creative trumpet player, improviser and composer.
His character is clearly noticeable through his warm tone and lyrical playing.
Van Rhijn has a minimalistic approach to music with a focus on detail. He was born and raised in The Netherlands, where he first started playing the trumpet at a young age in the local wind band. During a high-school exchange year in the U.S. Van Rhijn got an introduction to jazz music, which inspired him to continue studying music at the Prince Claus Conservatory in The Netherlands. After his studies he was active in the Dutch music scene, touring with groups like The Jig, Rotterdam Ska Jazz Foundation, Jamal Thomas Band and Flower To The People. In 2012 Van Rhijn moved to South-Korea where he has been active with his trio and his band Blow Out. He released three albums as a leader and played at the major festivals and venues in Korea. He has composed, arranged and recorded music for Korean traditional music artists, modern dance groups and K-pop artists.

“The sound of this trio is neat and demonstrates the essence of
a trumpet trio.... With this minimal instrumentation as a trio you
can hear the subtle interplay between the musicians, which
makes it more enjoyable.
Their playing never gets boring, because it's sophisticated and
the musicians react to each other.” (translated)
